Research and Markets Adds Report: Red Hat: More than a Play on Open
Source
(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)
Research and Markets has announced the addition of Red Hat: More than a
Play on Open Source to its offerings.
In a release, Research and Markets noted that report highlights include:
Red Hat has an advantage over the others in that it began recognizing
almost all its software-related revenue as subscription right from its
beginning. This means an apples-to-apples comparison of Red Hat with
BEA, the IBM Software Group, Novell or other suppliers with whom Red
Hat is often compared would increase Red Hat's market share by as many
as 5 percentage points in the operating software and middleware
markets, the two segments in which it participates. But Red Hat has a
problem in building to further growth because it currently lacks the
application ecosystem of the larger software providers.
"Red Hat: More than a play on open source":
- Explores Red Hat's self-proclaimed portfolio of "3,000 certified
applications" as that portfolio applies to the average end-user.
- Discusses Red Hat's efforts to transition its user profile from IT
developers and system administrators to a broader, more general
end-user audience through its Red Hat Exchange (RHX) program.
- Examines Red Hat's OSS positioning in comparison to other leading
software suppliers' product stacks
- Applies industry trends and forecasts to derive a Red Hat long-term
valuation.
Products covered in this report include:
- PLM
- Asset Management
- Notes
- Apache
- Informix

- Oracle 11
- Sleepycat
- VMware
- ABAP
- NetWeaver
