iLinc Communications announced that version 9 of its Web conferencing solution is now certified compliant with Section 508 of WAI Priority 1 and 2. This specification relates to factors such as readability of a Web interface for visually impaired users.
The company’s focus on learning and training prompts it to maintain 508 and WAI compliance with respect to new features developed for iLinc.
The key benefits of a Section 508 standards-compliant Web site include better accessibility for handicapped users. A great deal of Section 508 compliance entails making Web sites, intranets, and Web-enabled applications more accessible to such users.
“This certification is especially important to our government and higher education clients, as they must make things accessible to their users and constituents with disabilities,” said Frank Gartland, vice president of iLinc’s product and technology division, in a statement. “This means that, for example, a screen reader program can read the interface of an iLinc Web conferencing session to someone who is visually impaired.”
Gartland added: “Because of our strong roots in learning and training, we always consider 508 and WAI compliance with respect to new features we develop for iLinc.”
The rigorous accessibility compliance audit of iLinc’s Web conferencing applications was conducted by Computer Intelligence Associates, of Columbia, Maryland. The company is an independent professional services firm with expertise in accessibility, WAI, and Section 508. The compliance testing addressed all user interface components in the iLinc Web conferencing suite of applications, thus earning them a certificate of compliance.
CIA provides testing services to some of the largest technology companies around the world, allowing clients to successfully secure engagements at tough government agencies. Successfully audited applications, websites, or documents all receive a certificate of compliance from CIA.
“iLinc went the extra mile in achieving these results which will allow people with a broad range of disabilities to access iLinc’s Web conferencing interface,” said Clark French, President of CIA, in a statement.
