China Digital TV Holding Co. announced that it has signed a collaboration agreement with Intel (News - Alert) Corporation to enable its conditional access solution to use the Intel(R) CE 2110 Media Processor. This will help in the mutual development of advanced digital television products.
China Digital TV is a provider of conditional access ("CA (News - Alert)") systems to China's rapidly growing digital television market. CA systems allow television network operators to manage the delivery of customized content and services to their subscribers. The company operates its CA-related business through its subsidiary Beijing Super TV Co., Ltd., Beijing Novel-Super Digital TV Technology Co. and Beijing Novel- Super Media Investment.
After the agreement, China Digital TV is going to modify its CA software to run optimally on the Intel(R) CE 2110 Media Processor (News - Alert), which is a complete system-on-a-chip. This will allow China Digital TV to sell the product to China's set top box manufacturers. The integrated solution will enhance the system's ability to encrypt and decrypt signals for digital television systems.
Intel(R) CE 2110 Media Processor is a complete system-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture which incorporates 1GHz processing core with powerful A/V processing and graphics, and I/O components, onto a single chip. This SoC design helps manufacturers to accelerate time to market, and develop smarter, more cost-effective consumer electronics designs that provide the processing performance, flexibility and headroom needed to deliver advanced revenue-generating services, such as VoIP , video phone, interactive gaming, enhanced karaoke and e-learning.
Intel(R) CE 2110 Media Processor supports MPEG-2 and H.264 hardware video decoders, DDR2 memory interface and 2D/3D graphics accelerators.
"Advanced, high-definition technology is the future of China's digital television industry, and we are pleased to take the next step with Intel to bring next-generation digital television solutions to market in China," said Mr. Jianhua Zhu, China Digital TV's chief executive officer, in the press release, "Intel's unmatched expertise in chip design coupled with our local knowledge and extensive partnerships with set top box manufacturers creates a unique opportunity for us to bring the most advanced, highly secure and reliable digital home entertainment products to China. This collaboration also allows our experienced R&D team to leverage its talents with the world's premier provider of chip technology, and we look forward to deepening our relationship with Intel."
Zhu added that the relationship between the companies fits with their company's strategy of expanding into value-added services that will require more advanced processing capabilities and help the company to prepare for increased digital television penetration in China.
