The network currently provides Sony BMG's catalog; the joint venture will add content from other labels in the near future. Dada users get billed for service through their mobile phones using premium SMS.
Music fans who sign up for Dada are given 15 tokens per month for $9.99. Users can redeem each token for one download of a ringtone, or other mobile content including wallpapers and games. Instead of downloading only mobile content, Dada members can now opt to download full songs in the MP3 format to their computers. They can also transfer these MP3 tracks to their mobile phones, iPods or digital music players.
Dada Entertainment also announced the repurposing and renaming of its existing social network into a more music-oriented community called The Music Movement. When this community becomes fully operational, Dada users will be able to find out about new artists and network with existing members and communities at the same time. Users can also create a personal page where they can share their likes and dislikes through personalized playlists, images and blog posts.
“Today's announcement of a next-generation music storefront is only possible because of our unique ability to meld the technological superiority of Dada with SONY BMG's incredible artist catalog,” said Massimiliano Pellegrini, Dada Entertainment's CEO. “By adding Mp3 downloads to our existing products, such as ringtones and wallpapers, we are giving our customers a comprehensive entertainment experience that spans the web and mobile spaces.”
The Music Movement will be a promotional tool for artists and labels as it provides fans with the opportunity to interact directly with their favorite musicians. It offers features like mobile alerts, up-to-date concert information and exclusive contests for this interactive feature.
